Weiser's boom-era houses, and what selling one involves

Thomas Galloway homesteaded near where the Weiser and Snake rivers meet in 1864, and the first bridge over the Weiser River went up the next year. The settlement around it, "Weiser Bridge," was shortened to Weiser. The railroad arrived in the early 1880s. After an 1890 fire destroyed much of the early business district, the town rebuilt near the depot at State and Main. Mining in the Seven Devils then drove a boom, and the population grew from about 700 in 1886 to roughly 3,500 by 1910. Brick and stone buildings went up, along with plenty of houses. Today Weiser is best known nationally for the National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest.

What to know before selling in Weiser

Weiser River floods. The Weiser River can rise quickly. Look up your property's FEMA zone, and if it has flooded before, tell us. It doesn't rule out an offer.

Old construction. Houses from Weiser's boom years can have rubble or brick foundations, old wiring, plaster and decades of remodeling. A traditional buyer's inspection could turn up a long list. Our offer already allows for that.

No local design review. According to Washington County's 2022 historic preservation plan, Weiser's preservation commission focuses on education and inventories and doesn't run historic districts or design review. An old house here can generally be sold like any other.

Rentals. Roughly 37% of occupied homes are rented. We buy rentals.

Estates and heirs. Some sales by a personal representative or trustee don't need Idaho's standard seller disclosure form (Idaho Code §55-2505). Confirm with the estate's attorney. Washington County property taxes are due in two halves, on December 20 and June 20.
